We begin with a mountain of fabric

When we cut for a kit, a demonstration quilt or project or get to the end of a bolt of fabric, whatever is left is placed in our shop fabric area. Pieces are of variable length, width, are generally rectangular but can be really irregular and small. There are fat quarters, 12" strips, 2" x 3" pieces and everything in between. Variety is wonderful!

There are some real gems in the pile: fabrics that we loved and are no longer printed; fabrics placed in quilt kits we sold out of in a blink; fabrics picked specially for a charity quilt we gave away; you get the idea. It was difficult letting some go: I still have a stash I just can't part with!!

we weigh the fabric

When my grandmother moved out of the family home in NJ, she sent me this awesome kitchen scale. I use it all the time and it is perfect!!

Variety is the spice of life - that's our scrap bag mantra. We lay out fabrics, one on top of the other and roll them up. We try for variety and that's what you'll get in each bag. Each bag is weighed to 1 pound for the larger bags and 1/2 pound for the smaller bag.

We did sort batiks from prints for some of the bags - you can read which are which in the selections.
